Letter of Intent

From september 8th to the 14th, the city of Figueira da Foz will be home to Figueira Film Art – Festival Internacional de Cinema da Figueira da Foz.
The success and quality of this event is expected to be worthy of comparison with the previous Figueira International Film Festival which, for three decades, was considered a staple of cinema directed in Portugal.
Being Figueira da Foz a tourist destination, with a vast diversity of unique natural resources and 12km of beaches, sea, river and forest, it’s important to give to the city new attractions in order to give to its visitors, in a date that escapes the logical and rational seasonality, a cultural programming that was once a landmark of the city.
With the clear knowledge of the responsibility that comes with the name “Festival Internacional de Cinema da Figueira da Foz”, but also with knowledge that a lot has changed over this long hiatus, the entities that have chosen to give a helping hand are very much appreciated. These entities will make Figueira Film Art possible, allowing to conclude a senseless hiatus and make way for an ambicious and relevant project!
The current edition will have as a goal not only to lead people to cinema, but also to lead cinema to people, making it, this way, a travelling festival. The CAE will be above all the place where the majority of the festival will take place, the intention of the organizing team being to take categories of short films, between documentaries and videoclips, to interact amongst spaces as varied as their bars, clubs and museums spread across the city and its surroundings. On the other hand, Casino Figueira, the mythical location of the past FICFF, will be one of the landmarks of this new edition, being the home to the cerimonious ball, guest films, and side by side with CAE, several conferences, talks and workshops related to cinema.
It is so, with a spirit of full commitment and together with the aforementioned entity support, that the independent organization team of Figueira Film Art will reignite a showcase with a history in the cultural landscape, and cinema in particular, supported on a rich and diversified programming for all the lovers of the seventh art.
